It started with a kiss...

Doesn’t it always? Now that’s hardly a secret. That first warm meeting of the mouths. Whether it’s hard and hungry…Or a long, deep, and searing kiss…It matters not. The effect is the same. An inciting of the heart. An igniting of the senses. And escalating breaths.

Better, and even more delicious it is when one is awakened by such a kiss --- as it so happened to notorious rake, bastard son of the King, Adrien, Marquis de Beaulain in my summer release, AWAKENED BY A KISS. You see, this sleeping beau is not one to turn away a beautiful woman from his bed. Especially one who sneaked into his private rooms --- so warmed and willing. It was supposed to be nothing more than an anonymous encounter. A few hours of shared carnal diversions, meant to be enjoy. And forgotten.

Five years later, he still can’t forget that night of raw ecstasy---that began with that first exquisite kiss.

An act so very intimate.

Yet no one really knows the origins of the kiss, or, for that matter, where the term “French kiss” came from. Ever wondered? I came upon these delightful sites HERE and HERE, with cleverly compiled facts about:

The Kiss.

Dearest readers, here are some of the highlights. Did you know....

• The science of kissing is called philematology. ---One of the finer things we do in the name of science, wouldn’t you say?

• French kissing involves all 34 muscles in the face. A pucker kiss involves only two. ---A wonderful workout! Perhaps this should be incorporated in everyone’s daily exercise routine? *grins*

• Most people tip their head to the right when they kiss. ---I doubt a woman would turn away a wickedly seductive man who tilts to the left. ;)

• It’s thought that the term “French kiss” may have come about from the English as a slur on the French culture which was thought to be overly focused on sex. --- Dearest readers, I must confess, I don’t see this as a problem. Or as an insult. I doubt the French do either.

• In France, it’s called a tongue kiss or soul kiss because if done right, it feels as if two souls are merging. In fact, several ancient cultures thought that mouth-to-mouth kissing mingled two lovers’ souls.---*sighs* I like that!

• 50% of the people on this planet have had their first amorous kiss before turning 14.

• Lips are 100 times more sensitive than the tips of the fingers. Not even genitals have as much sensitivity as lips. ----Now there’s a tantalizing tidbit of information.

• Like fingerprints, no two lip impressions are same.

• The first on-screen kiss between two members of the same sex was in Cecil B. DeMille’s 1922 Manslaughter.

• Kissing is much more important to women than men. Research indicates that 50% of men would go ahead with sex even if they are barred from kissing their partner, whereas 10% of women would do so. Men are also more likely to prefer wetter kisses involving more tongue as compared to women.----I think this can be debated.

• Kissing is good for teeth. The anticipation of a kiss increases the flow of saliva to the mouth, giving the teeth a plaque-dispersing bath. ---Odd. My dentist neglected to mention this. It certainly puts a more interesting spin on how to maintain good oral health.

• A medieval manuscript warns Japanese men against deep kissing during the female orgasm because a woman might accidentally bite off part of her lover’s tongue. ---This made me giggle.

• Passionate kissing burns 6.4 calories a minute. A Hershey’s kiss contains 26 calories, which takes five minutes of walking–or about four minutes of kissing–to burn off. ---Now if you’re attending the RT convention, I sent booklets (excerpt of AWAKENED BY A KISS -- one and half chapters), bookmarks and of course, cards with Hershey's Kisses. How could I resist? The book is called Awakened by a Kiss, after all.

Do pick them up! How you burn off the calories from the Hershey's Kisses is up to you, dearest friends.

April Contest!

I'm afraid I don't have a secret to reveal today, but a desire.

I wish to give you poison.

Yes, you read that correctly. I decided it's time to run my first contest! Since, at the moment, I don't have copies of my books to give away, I came up with a sumptuous alternative.

PRIZE: PURE POISON, Christian Dior, Eau de Parfum, French fragrance for Women. (50 ml - spray) $75.00 value according to the DIOR official website.

And it fits perfectly with the first story in AWAKENED BY A KISS, titled Sleeping Beau (my steamy, wicked take on Sleeping Beauty). You see, my hero Adrien d'Aspe, Marquis de Beaulain, doesn’t know the identity of the woman who sneaked into his bedchamber five years ago and woke him with a searing kiss. Their night of raw ecstasy was branded into his memory, every detail, including her fragrance – jasmine – and the fact that he’d taken a virgin.

When I read the following description of PURE POISON from Dior’s official site, I knew I’d found the perfect prize for my first contest. It even sounds fairy tale and describes Catherine!

“Once upon a time, there was a fragrance that was innocent yet captivating, sincere yet mysterious… Pure Poison incarnates seduction in its purest state by exploring its duality and irresistible alchemy. Based on orange blossom, jasmine, gardenia, amber and sandalwood, this delicate yet generous modern potion reveals the seductress within.." ---Now, dearest readers, how delicious is that?
